Safety Tips

At Duo, your safety is our priority. While we work hard to create a trusted community of sports enthusiasts, it's important to take precautions when meeting new training partners. Here are some tips to help you stay safe.

Before You Meet

  • Get to know them first: Use our in-app messaging to chat before meeting in person. Take your time and don't feel pressured to meet quickly.
  • Verify their profile: Look for verified badges and check their sports interests align with what they've told you.
  • Trust your instincts: If something feels off, it probably is. You can unmatch or block users at any time.
  • Do your research: Search for them on social media to verify they are who they say they are.

Meeting In Person

  • Meet in public places: For your first few meetups, choose busy public locations like popular gyms, running tracks, or sports clubs.
  • Tell someone your plans: Let a friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.
  • Stay in public: Don't go to private locations until you've built trust over multiple sessions together.
  • Arrange your own transportation: Drive yourself or use rideshare so you can leave whenever you want.
  • Keep your phone charged: Make sure your phone has enough battery to last through your activity and get home.

During Your Activity

  • Stay aware of your surroundings: Pay attention to what's happening around you, especially in new locations.
  • Keep belongings secure: Don't leave valuable items unattended with someone you've just met.
  • Stay sober: Keep a clear head, especially during your first few meetups.
  • Have an exit plan: Know how to leave quickly if you feel uncomfortable.

Protect Your Personal Information

  • Don't share sensitive details: Avoid sharing your home address, workplace, or financial information early on.
  • Use in-app messaging: Keep conversations in Duo until you're comfortable sharing your phone number or social media.
  • Be cautious with photos: Avoid sharing photos that reveal identifying information about your location.

Report Suspicious Behavior

If you encounter someone who makes you uncomfortable or violates our community guidelines, please report them immediately. You can do this by:

  • Tapping the report button on their profile
  • Using the report option in your conversation
  • Contacting our support team at [email protected]

We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly. Your report will remain confidential.

Emergency Situations

If you're ever in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. In the United States, call 911. In the EU, call 112.

After ensuring your safety, please report the incident to us so we can take action to protect other users.
